Mist and Fixed

In Nairobi, it is hard to get the popular brands of make-up easily and at a price that is sustainable over time. One make-up product that I have been on the looking out for is a make up setting spray and a face primer so I thought why not DIY. Surprisingly, the ingredients are all natural and similar to what I already had for my hair care routine and the mist can be used as both a face primer and a setting spray. Ummm double tap.. Yaaassss!!!!

What you would need:
  1. Green Tea (moisturizer/antioxidant)
  2. Aloe Vera gel (oil control)
  3. Glycerine (sealant/binder)
  4. Spray bottle (travel size/recycle body splash bottle)
  5.
Directions

Brew green tea using distilled water (to prolong its shelf life) and let the tea bag steep overnight. Prepare your spray bottle by sanitizing it in hot water and allowing it to air dry. Once dry add in green tea filling in 80% of the bottle. The remaining 20% fill in aloe vera gel (10%) and glycerine (10%). Shake well and this spray is ready for use. Refrigerate this mist and it will last up to 2weeks if you don't go all spritz happy with it.

Use it straight from the fridge on freshly washed face before applying moisturizer, spray again after wearing make up then during the day for a refreshed the face. Hold the bottle arms length away from your face before spraying to avoid spraying too much but If you end up doing so,will have a dewey look. A win-win either way. Blot your face with pocket tissues to soak out excess oil before spritzing.

Green tea is great for skin because it has antioxidant properties that slows damage from the environment making it anti-aging, it is rich in vitamin C and E, prevents and treats acne, protects from the sun and gives a youthful glow among other many benefits. Aloe vera is great as a toner for oil control and its anti-inflammatory properties soothes and refreshes the skin. Glycerine serves to seal and bind everything together, covering imperfections caused by acne, eczema e.t.c. giving the skin a radiant glow. For the longest time I wasn't a fun of glycerine not knowing its unique properties.

These ingredients can be switched. Instead of using green tea, you can use rose water or any floral water then dilute it with distilled water. Aloe vera can be used or eliminated depending on your skin type. But glycerine cannot be substituted though Vitamin E oil can be used to increase the shelf life of the mist. It is amazing how many benefits are contained in this simple spritz recipe and you don't have to break the bank.
